At the IVV the focus is on the common foundations for all means of transport and the cross-modal issues of transport planning and traffic engineering.
In transport planning, methods and procedures are developed with interdisciplinary references and as a component of interdisciplinary spatial planning. The focus is on the causes and effects of mobility as well as integrating strategies for traffic management.
Traffic engineering considers the fundamentals of traffic flow and the performance of traffic facilities. The Institute´s traditional work in light signal technology is extended by a comprehensive examination of modern traffic control and information systems, as well as the collection, processing and distribution of traffic data.
